Montreal Children’s Hospital NICU
The new Montreal Children’s Hospital at the Glen site hosts a 52-bed unit to provide ultra specific care to mothers and their babies. The private rooms provide each and every neonate with a secluded and caring environment, which also help reduce the spread of infections. Our unit also offers a special accommodation for twins and their parents.
Our NICU is primarily dedicated to the care of patients with congenital heart defects and other complex malformations, and preterm complications including necrotizing enterocolitis, ductus arteriosus, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, severe respiratory distress with pulmonary hypertension, neonatal asphyxia and many more. We provide easy access to paediatrics and surgical specialists for any newborn diagnosed with these conditions.
The MCH’s NICU is equipped with the most recent technologies for invasive ventilatory procedures (high frequency oscillatory and jet ventilation, volume guaranteed ventilation and NAVA) as well as non-invasive ventilation therapies (bubble CPAP, NIPPV, HFNC, NIV-NAVA), therapeutic hypothermia, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and surgery.
Our success as a department is the result of the hard work of our neonatologists, paediatricians, specialized nurse practitioners, clinical nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, social workers, and occupational therapists all dedicated to building a stress-free environment for all neonates to recover in.
